Blessings of the New Year

Book giveaways will resume the first Thursday of next month, February 3!

Until then, though, it gives me great pleasure to present:

Paige Olivia was born December 15, making four generations of women in our family. As if it weren't obvious, we are, left to right, me, my mom, my granddaughter, and my daughter. And here, a shot of the oldest and youngest at our Christmas Eve gathering.

While we're on women, here's a picture of my sister and me, with the reality of kitchen prep behind us (in one sense, at least):
Grandpa, though is a REAL multitasker:
Okay, I know everybody's kids/grandkids are cute, but you gotta love this:
And who has her arms wide open to the possibilities of 2011?
And my favorites among the wonderful pro shots, by a close and talented friend of my daughter --
And if I weren't humbled enough by my blessings -- these are the priceless little people for whom we write. The privilege, the responsibility...God entrusts it to us... Words fail.

Oh, Marcia, I love, love, that first and last picture ... four generations -- I can SEE the family resemblance.

Paige Olivia is a very, very lucky child to be born into such a happy and content family. May she always feel God's love as she grows.

Thanks, everyone. I have the last picture -- the one with the Mona Lisa smile -- on my computer desktop. :)

Lovely pictures, Marcia! You are blessed to have such a close and loving family. It is important to keep in mind the little minds we're writing for. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations -- those are fantastic photos, and you are so lucky to have a grandchild AND four generations in your family! Your daughter looks lovely, and she seems to be doing remarkably well, so good for her. My favorite picture is the one of your father, with the cat jockeying for a good spot on his lap. Priceless!

Wonderful photos, especially the one of your daughter and her husband with the baby. She is an adorable and very lucky little girl. Have a wonderful 2011!

Andrea -- Thanks--I never take them for granted. I don't really expect my writing to change, but I do now view it through the eyes of three young granddaughters.

Susan -- Thanks, thrilled is the word. My mom, daughter and I all independently had the idea of a 4-gen pic. My younger son took several shots, and this one turned out great.

Mary -- My daughter sailed through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I'm SO glad she didn't experience the awful nausea that I did. *giggle* That's my husband (the grandpa), not my father. Funny thing is, one of my crit partners, looking out the window at him in our yard, thought he was my son, and people have mistaken him and our oldest for brothers.

Jennie -- I love that photo too. My daughter's friend took at least 150 shots of all sorts, and I love them all, but to me these two are special in a more breathtaking way. :)

Laura -- Every once in a while I see FIVE-generation photos in the local newspaper. But our family has tended to have children at later ages (both my parents were born to older mothers, and my mother was the last of her siblings and friends to marry and have kids) so we are doing well to have great-grandparents. I never had any myself. Paige has two still living.

Eek -- sorry to Marcia's husband! Believe it or not, that was just my addled old brain at work.

It could have been worse. I could have written 'son' there...
